A man has donated his kidney to a seriously ill young girl after his own eight-year-old daughter died from kidney disease. Andy Emmott, 55, from Tadcaster, said he underwent the transplant for an 11-year-old named Amber because his daughter Sarah had received a kidney from a stranger. Sarah died 364 days after her transplant. Mr Emmott has since been fundraising for Theodora Children's Charity, which supported his daughter during her stays at Leeds General Infirmary.

Three men have been charged after police recovered suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of £5m from a vehicle on the A1(M) and a house. One man was arrested when 24kg of the drug was found during a stop at Scotch Corner at about 09:00 GMT on Saturday. A further 25kg of cocaine was seized and two men arrested following a property search in Easingwold, North Yorkshire. All three men appeared before magistrates in Leeds on Monday and are due to appear before Leeds Crown Court on 3 January.

Work to restore pathways and crossings on a walking trail badly damaged by Storm Babet last autumn is being planned. The storm washed away sections of the path and some stepping stone crossing points, along the 2.5 mile (4km) Rivelin Valley Trail, which links Sheffield to the Peak District National Park. Sheffield City Council’s finance and performance policy committee is to be asked to approve spending £30,400 on feasibility plans for the repairs at a meeting next week.

Signs normally used for road safety messages are being used to urge women to check for signs of breast cancer. The scheme, which is collaboration between councillors and the NHS, follows awareness raising sessions in the Bradford district. Data from the sessions allowed the signs to be placed in areas where the uptake rate for breast screenings was low, a Bradford Council spokesperson said.
