In two weeks’ time, six of the volunteers are heading to London, where they have been invited to the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. They have had a busy year. Last summer, following the tragedy in Southport, they were in the Town Hall Gardens in front of The Atkinson on Lord Street seven days a week looking after all the tributes and flowers which had been left by thousands of well-wishers.
