The All-Region 2AAA team has been announced, and several Upson-Lee Knights made the list. Nytraevion “Trae” Jones and Jayden Wise made the first team list. Jones enters the list from his outfield spot and Wise joins as a pitcher. All-Region Honorable Mentions include Trent Hill as an infielder, Levi Hausman as an outfielder, and Brannon Kilby as a relief pitcher. For team awards, Jones was awarded the Tommy Parks Strong Knight Award to go with the Vince Dooley Award.

Bobby Searcy was awarded the William Guildford Emancipation Award at the third annual Heritage Awards, held at Thomaston-Upson Senior Center on May 29, presented by The Emancipation Committee of Upson. Committee President Deneane Jones gave the initial welcome to those in attendance. Members of Thomaston City Council and Upson County Commission voted unanimously during a joint meeting last week to split $269,360 in repair costs to the R.E. Lee auditorium at the East Lee Street government complex. Merik Building Construction Consultants recommended the second lowest of six bids received for the project, after the lowest bid was withdrawn.

Upson-Lee football entered the summer with a strong showing against long-time rival Griffin, defeating the Bears, 35-8. The Upson Beacon caught up with Head Coach Justin Elder to get his thoughts on what he saw during spring. Coach Elder stated prior to the spring game that he was worried about the lines of scrimmage and depth. During a time for celebration, remembrance, and pondering the future, the Upson-Lee High School Class of 2025 walked across the stage at Matthews Field for graduation Thursday. The U-L Symphonic Band, for the last time under outgoing director Cameron Born, led opening processionals as both staff and students made way to their seats. U-L NJROTC performed the march of colors as the National Anthem was performed by senior chorus members. Kameria Kendall then led a moment of silence.
