Why not a double dose of history? Connor Droze threw his bat high in the air and pointed towards his teammates in the Lander dugout as he drove the ball well past the right field fence. Becoming the first Bearcat to hit 50 career home runs, his shot solidified another historic moment at Dolny Stadium. The seventh-inning shot left no doubt in Lander's eventual 8-3 win over Columbus State, lifting the Bearcats to their first Peach Belt Conference Championship since 2014.

A two-month long search came to an end when Emerald High School announced Garrett Jones as its new head girls basketball coach and Hayden Lawter to lead the wrestling team. Jones will be the third person to hold the title as the Vikings girls basketball coach this calendar year. Early in the season, longtime coach Merv Rollinson stepped down from the position, citing health reasons. Assistant coach Barry Kinard then finished the season on an interim basis.

Ashlyn Coleman sat in band practice and laughed as she observed a cross country practice. She thought to herself, "I would hate this."Softball was her sport and band was her activity of choice. Fast forward two years later, Coleman is the "greatest female runner in Ware Shoals history," according to cross country coach Jeremiah Boyd. On Wednesday, the record-breaking Hornet signed to continue her track and field and cross country career at Lander.

Chance after chance to win came for Greenwood girls soccer with little to show for its efforts. In the 78th minute, though, approaching the final kicks of regulation play, the Eagles took their most important chance of the season. Alli Cox chased a ball down the right side of the field, made a couple of moves to leave a defender in the dust and sent a ball into traffic.
