    Another urban area has reached the point where CityFibre is saying its primary FTTP build has completed. Reading and the surrounding area now has some 97,000 homes which are Ready for Service via the many resellers who use the CityFibre wholesale network. The CityFibre press release makes the claim that the rollout means Reading is one of the best connected locations in the country.

    Under the Shared Rural Network programme more than 50 rural masts that previously only offered a signal to EE customers or emergency 999 coverage have been upgraded to support more networks. This means many places people live and work in or visit on holiday will now have improved 4G mobile coverage. In terms of footprint the combined area with improvements is the size of 66,470 football pitches.

    AllPoints Fibre Network (APFN) and its aquila platform is expanding as a deal has been signed with Onecom. The new deal means Onecom business customers will have access to what the press release calls the largest network of business grade fibre premises in the UK. It will means Onecom will be able to use the CityFibre full fibre platform for the first time. Apparently this is the first time that layer 3 connectivity is delivered by APFN over the CityFibre network.

    Widnes is the latest new place where we’ve mapped availability from Grain Connect and hopefully over the coming weeks and months the footprint will expand further. Grain Connect focus on urban rollouts and has a footprint of over 250,000 premises across Great Britain. The footprint in the Warrington area including Widnes is currently at 6,365 premises and we will go hunting for more footprint in a few days time.

    Our tracking of the Openreach full fibre rollout and mapping of premises where the public can get the service installed has hit the 18.3 million premises milestone. This is month after it was mentioned by Richard Tang at Connected North during a keynote presentation and 23 days since the Openreach press release announcing the milestone being reached. The precise figure 18,030,020 premises passed and this is 55.4% of the UK.
