I’ve spent most of my life living with monsters. Monsters in my head, I mean; not the kind that torment you (although I’ve known a few of those, too), but the sort that entertain. I researched the motions to be debated and voted on in advance. I tried to say not-stupid-things when I thought it was worth making a comment.

On Monday, Oct. 30, the day before Halloween, I received a blast email from the principal of my youngest son’s high school that chilled me. It read, in part:I am writing to let you know that we are aware of the potential for a student-led demonstration that may occur Wednesday during the school day. This walkout is not sponsored by [the high school or the county school’s administration].
