Chief James Santimaw said there’s “no danger to the public whatsoever.”There was a village police presence in the courthouse parking lot Thursday afternoon. “We had a report from someone that stated something suspicious was going on and we’re working the case from there,” the chief said Thursday afternoon.

POTSDAM — The North Country Children’s Museum is wrapping up the construction phase of its second floor expansion. Now, the organization is in the process of raising another $300,000 to finish off building and install the exhibits, with a goal of opening in July 2025. The museum received $1.4 million from Potsdam’s 2019 Downtown Revitalization Initiative award. The total cost of the expansion project is $3.7 million, with $3.4 million raised so far.

POTSDAM — Three write-in candidates could join the Potsdam Public Library Board of Trustees during the June 26 budget vote. A public hearing regarding the proposed $620,777 annual budget, set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, will take place in the library’s upstairs classroom. The proposed budget includes a $14,113 increase over the current spending plan, a 2.3% hike, aligning with the tax cap. The current tax rate is $1.07 per $1,000 of assessed property value, slated to increase to $1.09.
