1 Introduction IL-17 family members—IL-17A, IL-17B, IL-17C, IL-17D, IL-17E (or IL-25) and IL-17F—are potent pro-inflammatory immune mediators that are active as dimers [1, 2]. The IL-17A/F dimer regulates mucosal immune activity through neutrophil recruitment and secretion of matrix metalloproteases, which drive tissue repair [3, 4]. IL-17A/F also manipulates local microbiomes through the induction of antimicrobial peptide secretion by epithelial cells located at mucosal barriers [5].

The existence of wheat, and other polyploid species, remains something of a conundrum. The generation of new synthetic polypoids is rarely a success, with most surviving only a few generations. Many hurdles lay in the path of such neopolyploids, with successful meiosis being the most challenging. Complex polyploids, such as bread wheat, must ensure a diploid-like behaviour of their homologous chromosome pairs during meiosis to generate viable gametes.

AbstractArthritogenic alphaviruses are positive-strand RNA viruses that cause debilitating musculoskeletal diseases affecting millions worldwide. A recent discovery identified the four-and-a-half-LIM domain protein 1 splice variant A (FHL1A) as a crucial host factor interacting with the hypervariable domain (HVD) of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) nonstructural protein 3 (nsP3). Here, we show that acute and chronic chikungunya disease in humans correlates with elevated levels of FHL1.
