Hudson-based craft chain JOANN announces going-out-of-business sale

JOANN Inc., the Hudson-based crafting chain founded in 1949 with locations across the country, announced Monday that it will be closing all of its stores and holding going out-of-business sales. The company, which was in bankruptcy protection for the second time in a year, was bought at auction on Saturday. GA Group along with the Prepetition Loan Agent had the winning bid for substantially all of JOANN's assets, according to a press release at joannrestructuring.com.
Akron releases bodycam video of fatal police shooting

The Akron Police Department has released body camera video from officers involved in the Feb. 17 shooting of 39-year-old Marcus Smith of Cincinnati. Audio from a 911 call shows that the fatal shooting occurred after a man who identified himself as Smith's father called to report Smith had stolen his car. Twenty-eight minutes later, Smith lay bleeding in the snow in the 200 block of Ira Avenue, video released by Akron police shows.
Cleveland takes another big financial step forward on reconnecting to its lakefront

Cleveland officials announced Friday the city has been awarded $70 million from the federal Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund the North Coast Connector. The Connector will bridge the train tracks and the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, state Route 2, behind city hall, providing better pedestrian access between downtown and the lakefront.

Akron officials have evacuated a half-mile area around a fire burning in an industrial building near Akron Fulton Airport. The fire, at 1081 Rosemary Boulevard, was first reported Thursday afternoon. The city called the blaze an "unsafe hazmat situation" due to chemicals inside the building which are burning. It’s urging people to avoid the area. The city did not specify what chemicals may be involved.
Number of people injured in Akron's mass shooting increases to 27, police say

Akron Police on Wednesday raised the number of people injured in Sunday's mass shooting at a street party in East Akron to 27 people. Two were in critical condition, the other 25 were either in stable condition or have been treated and released, police said. Lateris Cook, 27, was killed in the drive-by shooting. At a briefing Wednesday afternoon, Police Chief Brian Harding said they were not yet comfortable providing a description of the suspect or suspects.

Ohio Rep. Bob Young, who has twice been arrested on charges stemming from alleged instances of domestic violence in July, has submitted a letter of resignation to Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens. Young was arrested in July following an alleged domestic violence instance. He was charged on counts of domestic violence and assault, which he pled not guilty to. In late August, he was arrested for violating a protection order put in place after he was charged. Stephens, Gov.
