    Summit County authorities are investigating the death of a 13-year-old who died while participating in Monday’s Memorial Day Parade in Green. Matthew Schultz of North Canton was riding on a trailer towed by a pickup truck Monday morning when he fell off and was struck by the trailer's wheels, the Summit County Medical Examiner said in a statement. Schultz was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where he died.

    Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne is forming an Office of Violence Prevention amid rising gun violence in the community, the leader announced in a news conference on Thursday. Ronayne said crime historically increases when warmer weather arrives and more people spend time outside. The new office will address the root causes of violence.

    Cleveland officials announced Friday the city has been awarded $70 million from the federal Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund the North Coast Connector. The Connector will bridge the train tracks and the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, state Route 2, behind city hall, providing better pedestrian access between downtown and the lakefront.

    180,000 people were under evacuation orders and another 200,000 under evacuation warnings Thursday as high winds continued to drive five separate wildfires burning in and around Los Angeles. Among those who've been impacted is a woman who grew up in Lakewood and Fairview, who now calls LA home. In a conversation with Ideastream Public Media Thursday, Vanda Ungureanu said her home had been spared. The fires had not gotten close. Not yet. "You never know,” said Ungureanu.

    Cleveland City Councilmembers are furious that the city may foot a $20 million bill to cover capital improvements to Progressive Field and Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. The homes of the Guardians and Cavaliers are owned by the non-profit Gateway Economic Corporation, and capital repairs on the two buildings are funded by the county’s sin tax, which was originally passed to build the two facilities. But Gateway says the sin tax money isn't generating enough revenue for the stadium projects.
