    This March, there was rejoicing among animation fans and practitioners at an Oscar upset. The animated film Flow, directed by Latvia’s Gints Zilbalodis, won the Academy Award for best animated feature, beating Hollywood blockbusters by Pixar and DreamWorks. Flow is a flood fable without words or humans, telling the story of a small black cat who finds a family of other animals, from a capybara to a Labrador, on a boat on a deluged world.

    A G2 driver faces a jail sentence of up to six months after being caught for the third time speeding in the nation's capital. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said that the driver was pulled over on April 5 on Highway 416. At the time, the officer clocked the vehicle travelling 153km/h. This officer also recognized the driver as the same person caught going 159 km/h on the same highway in June 2024. Even a month prior, another officer caught them going 167 km/h on Highway 417.

    I write about anime, but this week, I’m talking about Castlevania: Nocturne. As its fans know, it’s an action-horror series, following the original animated Castlevania that started in 2017. A new batch of Nocturne episodes dropped onto Netflix in recent days, paying off the cliffhanger from last year. In both incarnations, the series isn’t anime, but that’s not obvious to the average viewer. Netflix itself classifies Castlevania as anime.

    Ottawa police nabbed a G2 driver for driving 146 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Sunday afternoon. The 20-year-old driver was caught travelling 66 km/h over the speed limit on Limebank Road. It is unclear where this occurred, but Limebank Road stretches from the southwest side of Ottawa International Airport to Manotick.
