Excess Catamarans has announced a new hybrid propulsion option for its popular 37-foot model, the Excess 11. Starting in summer 2025, buyers will be able to equip the boat with a hybrid system that pairs twin electric motors with a diesel generator. The new setup allows for quiet maneuvering and the option to cruise under electric power alone, while still offering extended range thanks to the generator backup.

This year’s International Multihull Show in La Grande Motte, France, included the unveiling of Joool, a hybrid-propulsion and smart energy system developed by the team behind Alternatives Energies in France. According to Joool’s team, the modular and pre-configured system gives shipyards a single-source option for easier integration into builds. The company says it’s already working with several top sailboat manufacturers, including Fountaine Pajot, Dufour Yachts and Leopard Catamarans.
