    Casual observers will be quick to attribute these judicial election results to the effect of Donald Trump on down-ballot races. And they are right—this election was unlike anything seen in Texas for Republicans. Trump's presence atop the Republican presidential ticket was one reason for that. But the seeds of this judicial turnover were planted in the waning days of the Obama administration and germinated after the 2018 midterm elections, when it was Democrats who swept the Texas appellate races.

    Subtitled as The Christopher Reeve Story, Super/Man seems likely to vex editors and typographers more than it will illuminate any texts. As with any biography made with the co-operation of surviving family and friends it's possible that a gentle line was taken, but it's disappointing that the film cleaves so closely to a sine-wave structure.

    Commissioned by publishers DC Thomson, this silent film was produced by documentarians at the Gaumont film company. First shown in public in 1911, it was regularly screened to audiences across the Dundee area for years. The National Library of Scotland have it as part of their media collection, though you can only watch the full version at their premises. At half an hour long it covers most aspects of the production of 'a great daily newspaper'.

    Much of our fondness for media consumed in childhood is a product of selective memory. We forget the bits that didn't work, choose not to recall that our enjoyment of anything at a young age is unalloyed by adult concerns like job interviews or nutrition. We also have significantly less to judge works against. The first film I saw in the cinema was Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, which meant for a brief period it was also the best film I had seen in the cinema.
