SFA Gardens to host annual Fall plant sale

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KETK) – Stephen F. Austin State University is hosting its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale in October. According to a release, the plant sale will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. SFA said that the sale will feature “hard to find ‘Texas-tough’ plants” including trees like Japanese maples, red buds, bald cypress and more. The university said that a full list of the available plants is available on the SFA Gardens website.
Thousands of federal firefighters' face pay cut

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Federal firefighters could see a loss in pay, unless Congress acts soon, as the Government Accountability Office reports record breaking wildfires and total acres burned in the U.S. have doubled over the past 20 years. “Wildland firefighters are slated to receive upwards of a 40% pay cut,” said Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.). Neguse’s district has seen several wildfires, and he’s fought for pay increases for federal firefighters.

Outer reaches of Tropical Storm Francine may impact parts of East Texas

Potential Tropical Cyclone Six has developed into Tropical Storm Francine as of the 10 AM update from the National Hurricane Center Monday. It’s expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Tuesday evening, with a landfall expected in Louisiana by Wednesday evening with winds around 85 mph. The greatest impacts will be felt in Louisiana, but some of the outer bands may reach parts of East Texas starting Tuesday afternoon and lasting through Wednesday night.
