From Houston Public Media:The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) issued its report on CenterPoint Energy’s handling of Hurricane Beryl about a week before Gov. Greg Abbott’s Dec. 1 deadline. The PUC’s report provides a long list of fixes for CenterPoint, for lawmakers and for the commission itself to prepare for future disasters like Hurricane Beryl. However, the report is far from the last hurdle CenterPoint faces in the wake of the July storm.

This time, the House has proposed the first bill mandating the placement of the Ten Commandments in Texas public-school classrooms. Freshman state Rep. Mike Olcott, a North Texas Republican, pre-filed the measure on Tuesday. But given Patrick’s determination, it’s likely the Senate will ultimately take the lead in passing such a bill in 2025.

Cruz poured much of his war chest into an advertising campaign that sought to paint Allred as too liberal for Texas. He aimed to link Allred to the immigration and border security policies of the Biden administration, even though Allred was one of a handful of Democratic House members who signed onto a Republican resolution condemning those policies. He also heavily criticized Allred for opposing Republican measures to bar transgender athletes from participating in school sports.

Reporters around Cruz’s hometown of Houston and Allred’s congressional seat in Dallas asked voters what they think of the candidates and what issues matter to them the most. If there’s a common theme in why some Houston-area voters are casting their votes for Senator Ted Cruz, it’s immigration and border security.
