Brian Schimming was first elected to the position in Dec. 2022, and voted into a second term this weekend. The party referenced its success in the 2024 election, where Wisconsin’s electoral votes went to President-elect Donald Trump and Republicans held onto their seats in Congress and the state legislature.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The head of Kohl’s is set to step down in 2025, the Wisconsin-based company announced Monday. Chief Executive Officer Tom Kingsbury will leave his role on January 15, 2025. He will become an advisor to the new CEO until he retires in May 2025. ““I’ve loved working in the retail industry for more than 40 years and it’s been an honor to finish my career at Kohl’s, a company that I’ve known and loved since I was a kid in Wisconsin,” Kingsbury said.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - State education leaders presented a budget Monday that would give $4 billion to public schools in the next two years. Sate Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly explained her new budget proposal focuses on two priorities: supporting special education services and restructuring revenue limits. Special education services are a required part of public schools in Wisconsin, but schools are struggling to fund them, Underly said.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - University of Wisconsin-Madison students received racist text messages that went to Black Americans across the country, the UW Police Department said Friday. The texts reference slavery and were sent nationwide on Thursday, UWPD said. “Anybody sending harassing or threatening text messages is completely unacceptable and anyone making racist statements, bigoted statements in text messages is something we cannot tolerate,” Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A 60-year-old woman from Mount Horeb was arrested early Saturday morning for her alleged 7th OWI charge. A Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper found a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of I-39/90 in Dane County around 5:15 a.m., WSP explained. The trooper then found the driver allegedly asleep at the wheel. When the trooper woke her up, she seemed intoxicated, WSP reported. She was arrested on a 7th OWI charge and brought to the hospital for a blood draw.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Vice President Kamala Harris will once again be stopping in Wisconsin on the campaign trail this week, her campaign announced Saturday. As part of a series of moderated conversations across the “blue wall” states, Harris will be joined by former Congresswoman Liz Cheney in Waukesha County sometime in the afternoon Monday, Oct. 21. The campaign did not release more specific details on the time and place.
