Independent Jewish Day School retained their status as Year 5 and 6 Mixed Netball champions after they won the latest Maccabi GB inter-school sports tournament. One of eight schools taking part in the competition, which was sponsored by All Aboard Charity Shops, 11 teams competed for the winners’ medal. An action-packed afternoon saw 115 players take to the court, watched on by a further 50 spectators, and saw IJDS beat Alma 2-1 in the final to claim back-to-back success.

Disappointed going out at this stage of the competition, he continued: “It always is exiting a cup competition at the semi-final stage, especially with the prospect of playing the Lions Vets, but I’m really proud of the boys. There was a shock in the semi-final of the Cyril Anekstein Cup as Division One promotion hopefuls Redbridge Jewish Care stunned Premier Division champions-in-waiting Hendon United 2-0. Bailey Brown scored for the victors, with manager Brandon Levene saying: “I couldn’t be prouder of the performance from the boys. The way we worked as a team, stuck to the game plan, fought for every single ball, got up and down the pitch was absolutely incredible.

Sponsored by All Aboard Charity Shops, the event saw a 36% increase in participation from the last edition of the tournament, which was held in September, as 19 teams from 13 schools took part in the event, ensuring a total of 180 players took part. The event was played out in front of 100 spectators, who saw MMK beat Independent Jewish Day School 4-2 in the final.
