The Indianola boys and girls summer teams are back in Little Hawkeye Conference action tonight, both hosting doubleheaders with Newton. The Indians baseball team is 2-2 in conference action after an impressive win against Dallas Center-Grimes on Wednesday, and have gotten stellar pitching so far on the season with a team ERA of 2.55.

The Indianola City Council met in a work session after their meeting Monday, discussing the City of Indianola Tax Abatement Program. Indianola Mayor Steve Richardson tells KNIA News the city has been working with both residential and commercial developers to bring new properties into the city through Tax Increment Financing, but possible legislation made the council want more information on the program moving forward.

Historical markers will be placed at Lake Ahquabi tomorrow through a project by the General Joseph Warren Questers. Deb Taylor with the General Joseph Warren Questers tells KNIA News the beach house at Lake Ahquabi had been put on the National Register of Historic Places, yet no signage had been put up.
Indianola Special Friends Summer Luau Tonight

Indianola Parks and Rec is hosting a Special Friends Dance with a summer twist this evening, the Summer Luau. Kathy Kester with Parks and Rec tells KNIA News all individuals with special needs along with their families, chaperones, respite providers, and SCL workers are all invited to the incredibly fun summer luau. The Summer Luau Special Friends Dance will be from 6-7:30pm at the Indianola Activity Center, with pizza provided by the Indianola Hy-Vee.

Indianola Baseball Defeats DCG, Softball Falls

The Indianola baseball team got another gem from George Blake on the mound as they took down Dallas Center-Grimes 6-2, while the softball team fell behind early and couldn’t come back against the Mustangs falling 8-5. Blake earned a complete game on the mound going the full seven innings striking out nine, while also going 2-3 at the plate driving in two runs. Bo Blake went 2-4 with a double, and Asher Brueck went 1-2 with a run driven in.
Indianola Schools Enrollment Open

Enrollment for preschool and kindergarten students is open for the Indianola Community School District. Enrollment can be done online, with all required documentation including proof of residence, immunization records, and a pre-enrollment cover sheet is needed before receiving a link to complete the online enrollment process. The district has an informational page on its web site to help parents with any questions they may have, or they can simply contact the district office.
Indianola Police Department Warns of Scams

The Indianola Police Department is asking residents to be mindful of recent scam text messages being sent around the community, stating they are from the DMV and demanding payments for outstanding traffic tickets. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office says you should not give out personal information over the phone or in a text message if you don’t know the person they are talking to, and if you receive a call like this or a call they think may be a scam, to call the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
