    LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln hit a milestone on Saturday. Just in time for National Breastfeeding Month, it was made official that Lincoln would highlight Black Breastfeeding Week, from Aug. 25 through Aug. 31, to encourage breastfeeding among the community. The Birth and Baby Fair put on by Malone Maternal Wellness on Saturday highlighted the new proclamation, as well as the journey of motherhood within the black community. The Malone Center has been around since 1955.

    LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Public Schools is a rapidly growing district and as a result, the Lincoln Board of Education has proposed boundary adjustments for two schools in the area. The proposal includes adjustments to both Kooser Elementary and Campbell Elementary with adjustments assigning the area from Folkways to I-80 and 14th to 27th street to Campbell Elementary.

    LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - There’s been an average of 240 dogs coming into the Capital Humane Society each month in 2023. This has been a concern for staff, as it’s resulting in a slim number of beds available for incoming dogs. There were only four dog kennels available at the Capital Humane Society as of Thursday. That number went up to 22 on Friday, but this still puts a lot of stress on the staff members, volunteers and even the pets as it’s been a constant problem since 2022.

    LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Within the last two years, three Lincoln schools have added preschool classrooms to their building. At Standing Bear High School on Thursday, preschoolers and their teachers experienced these new rooms for the first time. Standing Bear High School is one of the three schools that have added preschool classrooms within the past two years. Parents and teachers say having more spaces like this in Lincoln make a big difference.
