Leo Messi is inevitable. LAFC took a 1-0 lead to Miami and before long saw themselves up 2-0 on aggregate with the away goal tiebreaker. And yet. And yet! Messi scores a banger out of nowhere, a really weird ball in bounces over everyone and LAFC can't clear it off the line, and finally LAFC give up a late PK and Messi calmly buries it for the 3-2 lead and eventual win. This was his third full 90 match in a week, leaving us with the question: will he show up to Chicago?

Well, that was certainly A Week. Hopefully you were happy with your score, because I sure left a lot on the table. My biggest mistake was not listening to myself and going with the wrong Nashville defender, but that's the way the season goes. Some way overperformed in the international week, many others disappointed. I'm okay with my overall rank (427), but I have some work to do to make it back to the FCL since I am definitely not making it this round.

A few data points that explain the Reign's 1-1 draw in their season opener. Seattle Reign opened the 2025 season with a 1-1 draw at Lumen Field against Gotham FC, a team that finished in third place on the NWSL table last year. After giving up a goal early in the second half, the Reign responded well. Three minutes after subbing into the match, Emeri Adames scored the equalizer after throwing her body on the line to block a Gotham clearance during a scramble in the box.

Seattle Reign kicked off the 2025 NWSL season with a comeback 1-1 draw against Gotham FC. Right after halftime, Gotham got on the scoresheet when forward Gabi Portilho's shot following a corner kick was deflected into the left corner. Emeri Adames scored the equalizer for the Reign in the 71st minute and ran to the corner flag pointing to the Reign crest on her jersey and getting the crowd hyped up. Gotham defender Mandy Freeman was sent off with a red card in the 87th minute.

The Seattle Reign opened their 2025 NWSL campaign with a point at home against NJ/NY Gotham City FC. It was, perhaps, not the ideal result after holding momentum for much of the game and spending the last 10+ minutes (including stoppage) up a player. But it was a point nonetheless, a comeback point against a tough opponent.
