The Lambousa II vessel was submerged at the Oroklini marine protected area on Saturday to enrich the site with artificial reeds. Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou said this is the third ship to be sunk in the area in the last five years, as she heralded the benefits of this practice in increasing fish stocks, as well as opportunities for diving and environmental awareness.

Cabinet members in President Nikos Christodoulides’ government were ousted from Disy on Saturday after a majority vote among party members. In a party conference to decide Disy’s next steps, party leader Annita Demetriou said she had personally called those affected ahead of time to inform them that the matter would be put to vote.

Monday will be a “historic day” for the Republic of Cyprus as two “major agreements” to commercialise natural gas in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone will be signed, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Saturday. Speaking to reporters at the presidential palace, he said “agreements will be signed for the first time in relation to the commercialisation of natural gas”. These are of “geostrategic political, energy and economic importance,” he added.
