    Residents of an affordable housing complex in Columbus that was scheduled to close at the end of the month have been given an additional two months to relocate. The affordable housing complex, the Villas apartments at 4101 Waycross Drive, was previously expected to close by April 30, when property owner BHI Senior Living’s contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that subsidizes rent for the residents of the 99-unit complex was set to expire.

    Unemployment in Bartholomew County dropped last month and fell below the state and national rates. The jobless rate in Bartholomew County stood at 3.3% in March, down from 4.2% in March 2024, according to figures released this week by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Unemployment also declined from 3.6% to 2.9% in Jackson County and 4.1% to 3.5% in Jennings County over the same period.

    SAN FRANCISCO — Toyota Material Handling and other Toyota-affiliated companies have agreed to enter into settlement discussions to potentially resolve a proposed class action lawsuit over allegations of emissions cheating in several forklift engines. The lawsuit, made public in September, was initially filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco by forklift buyers in California, New Jersey and New York.

    A local task force has teamed up with school resource officers to sound the alarm about “sextortion,” a crime that the FBI says is drastically increasing and was connected to at least 20 deaths by suicide across the country from 2021 to 2023. Sexual extortion, or “sextortion,” involves persuading a person to send explicit photos online and then threatening to make the images public unless the victim pays money or engages in sexual favors, according to the FBI.
