For the year ending 2024, a total of 110 officers sustained an injury from an assault whilst on duty. In total, 340 assaults have been reported since 2022. A total of 89 injuries were also sustained during struggles and scuffles last year with 255 injuries reported over the past three years.

Councillors expressed their 'outrage' at the 'imposition' of the incinerator which has got the green light and is set to be built at Portland Port. They agreed to write to King Charles - who has championed environmental issues - to express their anger over the plans after a proposal from Cllr Kia Pope. This is due to the island's 1,000 year history as a Royal Manor, with its Court Leet guarding the rights and privileges of the islanders.

Surrounded by west Dorset's beautiful countryside and with its stunning beaches and famous Cobb, the average house price in the seaside town will cost more £500,000. Home buyers wanting to move into the town will on average spend £531,815 on a property, according to Lloyds Bank.

The council has made £891,595 from residential parking permits since 2020. The figures came to light through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. Last year alone the council received £199,865 from parking permits - an 14 per cent rise on the previous year and the highest recorded revenue over the past five years. In 2023, it received £175,930, whilst in 2022 it collected £173,570 and in 2021 a total of £174,770 was received.
