ANDERSON — With an abundance of research indicating that walking — even for only a few minutes a day — is linked to longer lifespans, a countywide fitness challenge focused on the simplest of exercises was a logical collaboration for several local groups. The Madison County Steps Challenge, a free summer-long event under the Community in Motion umbrella, is challenging residents to take a total of 100 million steps between June 1 and Aug. 31. The goal, organizers say, is simple: Get people active.
