Sinn Féin TD Joanna Byrne has raised the need for a driving test centre for Drogheda in the Dáil. “The statutory maximum waiting time for a driving test is ten weeks and no test centre in the country is meeting that or even coming close to it” she said. “As there is no driving test centre in Drogheda, people in South Louth and East Meath have to travel to do their driving tests, usually to Navan or Dundalk.

Sinn Féin TD for Louth Joanna Byrne has called on the newly appointed Government to urgently address the shortage of childcare places for families in Louth. Responses to parliamentary questions submitted recently by Deputy Byrne to the newly appointed Minister for Children show that 17 pre-school services closed in the last number of years in Louth, and more worryingly that 158 ELC places have been lost.

Drogheda’s Labour TD Ged Nash says he is “deeply frustrated” that the introduction of lower fares for Drogheda commuters, first announced a year ago, is being delayed once again. “A year ago in January of 2024, the NTA made a much-heralded announcement that Drogheda would finally be included in the Dublin Commuter Zone where local commuters could at last, avail of the lower rail fares enjoyed within that zone.

Fifteen year old Matthew Maher who lives in Tenure and is a student at St Joseph’s Secondary School in Drogheda, has been selected to play for the Ireland Ice hockey team in Michigan USA next month. That is all very well and good, but the problem for Matthew is that, with all the travelling, it can be very expensive to compete. So he has launched an online fundraising campaign to help with the costs.
