SALT, the former Michelin star restaurant in Stratford, has closed after eight years. The fine dining restaurant in Church Street was run by Paul Foster who launched Salt following a £100,000 Kickstarter campaign. The restaurant was created - to a high standard - in a grade II-listed building and soon became a favourite destination for locals and visitors. In 2018, Paul and the team gained a Michelin star which was held until last year.

AT six on Monday evening we felt sure it would not be; at nine we knew it was. The great occasion for which hearts had been hungering this many a year, the defeat of the vilest enemy that had ever raised its gorgon head against the beauties of life, was at hand. Expectation was succeeded by realisation. Within an hour streets were transformed.

It’s a victory of the great British nation as a whole.”The famous words of Winston Churchill were recreated outside Shakespeare’s Birthplace in Stratford as part of a VE Day event to mark the 80th anniversary. Peter Seymour Mead, who was dressed as Churchill, delivered the great man’s speech during a flashmob by residents of two Warwickshire care homes.

GET the bunting hung, put some 1940s music on the gramophone and dig out your Union Jack ready for next week’s VE Day celebrations which will mark 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe. As previously reported by the Herald, Stratford’s celebrations will be focused around the bandstand and Garden of Remembrance next Thursday (8th May).
