Aron Ramirez was preparing dinner at his home on the East Coast when a call from an 805 number appeared on his cell phone. Ramirez abandoned his food to answer the phone, eager to hear what the caller had to say. Excitement overcame Ramirez as he ended the call; Cal Poly had just accepted him into its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Cluster Hire for the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). Including Ramirez, Cal Poly hired six faculty to promote diversity and inclusion within the liberal arts college.

Dawn Addis, incumbent for California State Assembly District 30, received 65.5% of votes from portions of the three central coast counties, according to the initial reports from San Luis Obispo County, Monterey County and Santa Cruz County. Addis has 65.5% of voter support in SLO County, according to initial results. She was first elected to the assembly in 2022. Representing the Democratic party, Addis oversees the counties of Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz.

The University Union on Cal Poly’s campus witnessed a consistent voter turnout this afternoon. Cal Poly students began dropping off their ballots as early as 7 a.m. For the most part, the atmosphere remained calm at the UU ballot drop-off station. “People think it’s a lot to vote; Cal Poly made it easy,” said freshman Katie Hopkins regarding the ease of the voting process. Some students cast their ballots with little hesitation, while others took their time reading and double-checking signage.
