    Mark Carney, like other Liberal leadership hopefuls, has been zig-zagging across the country offering some insight into how a Liberal government would operate under him. Since hitting the campaign trail two weeks ago, the former banker has not mentioned reconciliation or laid out a vision for working with Indigenous Peoples. A Cree elder did say a prayer at his launch in Edmonton, and Carney offered a land acknowledgement before speaking  in Halifax Friday.

    Proposed federal legislation that would have helped make First Nations drinking water safe, is now dead after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau prorogued Parliament on Monday. Bill C-61, the proposed First Nations Clean Water Act, was currently being studied in committee but because of prorogation – all business in Parliament has come to a close. The bill set new safety standards for drinking water,  offered new protections for water sources, and promised financing to meet the standards.

    It has been 49 years since the murder of Annie Mae Pictou Aquash. Now, a new documentary takes a look at the life and death of the Mi’kmaq activist from Nova Scotia who moved to Boston in 1962 and was killed in 1975. “Vow of Silence: The assassination of Annie Mae” debuted on the American streaming service Hulu on Dec. 1. The “true crime” docuseries looks at the violent death of Aquash that went unsolved for 30 years. Two people were convicted of her kidnap and murder in 2004 and 2010.

    A Mi’kmaw mother living in Nova Scotia says she may lose health supports for her children under the Jordan’s Principle program. Mary Isaac, a single mother of three, has cerebral palsy and requires a wheelchair. She lived independently until she was hit by a car two years ago. when she sustained significant injuries including a broken femur and will require long-term medical treatment with surgeries over the next few years.

    The chief of Sitansisk (St. Mary’s First Nation) in New Brunswick says his nation is ready to move on and build a relationship with the new provincial government after Monday night’s decisive win by the Liberals led by Susan Holt. “My reaction was quite ecstatic because I have to lead our nation into a better place than what the previous government was not doing for our people,” Allan Polchies Jr. told APTN News. “It’s exciting for our people.
