    Our results from the econometric models test and confirm the key insights (Table 1). Column (1) shows results for our triple-differences model from Equation (1). We find that exposure to bans on the sale or possession of beef reduces hemoglobin levels by 1.232 g/L. These results are significant at the 0.1 percent level with standard errors clustered by state. We also report the wild-bootstrap p-values at the state level. The values yield estimates that are significant at the 7 percent level.

    Education experts have complained for decades that public schools are overregulated. The host of regulations schools must comply with consumes educators’ time, time used to document compliance instead of educating children. In a 2011 Congressional hearing, one educator noted that the National School Nutrition Program required “one and half hours of daily paperwork at each school site”.

    Homeschooling continues to attract families. After years of roughly 3 percent of students being educated at home, the pandemic spurred another increase in home education. Recent data show as many as 16 percent of children were homeschooled (and not just remotely attending regular school) in the fall of 2020. One response to the popularity of home education has been calls for increased regulation, especially mandatory reporting requirements or restrictions on which families can homeschool.
