Downtown Sioux Falls will host its annual Spring Loft Tour on April 26. Visitors to the self-guided event will have exclusive access to newly available spaces as well as nicely curated occupied residences and historic apartments. Guests also are welcome to take pictures of the many different interior styles and layouts. DTSF encourages participants to begin at Cherapa Place for morning classes at SISU Fit, mimosas at Combine Boutique and coffee and smoothies from Pomegranate Market.

The Fellowship Jazz Center (FJC) is reviving big band music in Sioux Falls. The FJC aims to nurture young jazz musicians through jam sessions, educational programs, and performance opportunities. The FJC plans to establish a dedicated center with a music library, auditorium, and rehearsal space. The newfound Fellowship Jazz Center is bringing a jazz orchestra back to town. It’s been nearly a half century since Sioux Falls has enjoyed premier big band music.

Chantel Olson and her mother, Pennie Ogdon, co-own and operate Art Moms and Friends, a Sioux Falls-based gift shop featuring locally made goods. Originally a traveling pop-up shop, Art Moms and Friends now operates seasonally out of Park Place Mall. The store features work from nearly 50 local vendors and emphasizes community and support for small businesses. Chantel Olson did not get along with her mother growing up. She even wrote a letter to her dad asking him to divorce her.

Record Store Day, a national holiday for vinyl collectors, is expected to draw large crowds to Total Drag in Sioux Falls. Nearly 400 limited-edition titles are being released nationwide on Saturday, including exclusives from Taylor Swift, The Cure and Kendrick Lamar. Total Drag owner Dan Nissen is known for his curated music recommendations and personal touch. Dan and Liz Nissen ordered nine dozen donuts for Saturday.

The Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center will host an artist reception Thursday for 91-year-old Sioux Falls painter Phyllis Jorgenson. Her work reflects family history, memories of travel and “observations of life’s quiet moments and grand inspirations.”Jorgenson, who also is an author and former business owner, painted early on before raising her three daughters. She then returned to painting after her children were grown and became self-taught through workshops and community art gatherings.
