ANGIE MAYESMain Street MediaGender reassignment/sex transformation care will not be included in the insurance plan for Wilson County Schools’ employees after the WCS board voted 6-1 to deny its inclusion at its meeting on Monday night. Melissa Lynn was the only “no” vote, saying that there are unanswered legal questions about excluding it in the insurance plan. WCS is self-insured, which means the board sets the rules as to what coverage to offer.

ANGIE MAYESMain Street MediaA policy change would allow former Wilson County Schools students who have moved out of the county to return to a WCS school if approved by WCS Director Jeff Luttrell passed on first reading at the April 24 board meeting. Second reading on the policy changes is scheduled for the May 5 board meeting. Board member Joseph Padilla gave a scenario in which a student has cancer and had to move out of the county but still wanted to attend a WCS school.

Lots within the A-1 (agricultural) zoning in Wilson County will remain at a minimum of 80,000 square feet thanks to a tabled motion approved by a slight majority of county commissioners at its monthly meeting April 21. The vote to table the motion was 13-12, with commissioners Robert Fields, Rick Brown, Bobby Franklin, Jerry McFarland, Beth Bowman, Tyler Chandler, Haskell Evans, Jeremy Hobbs, Rusty Keith, William Glover, Wendell Marlowe, Jeremy Reich and Danny Clark approving the measure.
