There comes a time to quit something one has long been pursuing and even something one is good at. I feel like it’s time to quit political writing, at least of a particular kind that deals with the daily ups and downs in America, because it’s filling up headspace that takes away from crucial other tasks. I more or less quit writing literary criticism in 2017—along with writing poetry at the same time—after penning hundreds of thousands of words of literary criticism since the start of my career.

PPP Senator Palwasha Khan called for a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications on Monday, with or without the IT ministry, to discuss the blocking of “illegal VPNs” across Pakistan. The use of virtual private networks has surged in Pakistan as people are using them to access X, which has been banned since February, and a host of other sites. Authorities claim the software is also being used to bypass restrictions on pornographic content.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday condemned a “terrorist attack on unarmed civilians” in Kalat, stating that such cowardly acts cannot deter the country’s resolve. In a post on X today, premier Shehbaz — while condemning the latest attack — sent his “heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families”. He said that immediate action would be taken against the perpetrators of the attack.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday announced the Global Trophy Tour for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 was starting on Saturday in Islamabad. The trophy, after travelling across eight participating countries, will reach host Pakistan — also the defending champions — on Jan 27, 2025. The announcement comes amid tensions between India, the runners-up of the last iteration, and Pakistan over the former’s refusal to visit Pakistan for the tournament.
