A 16% increase in the per-gallon price of fuel, coupled with overall higher fuel volume, pushed Casey’s General Stores Inc.'s annual fuel sales past the $10 billion milestone in fiscal 2023. Casey’s fuels volume rose 4% to 2.67 billion gallons in fiscal 2023 from 2.58 billion gallons the prior year, as it added new stores, the company said.

Retail-tech company PDI Technologies said Friday it is acquiring Skupos, a tech platform connecting independent c-stores with major consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands. The companies expect the transaction to close Friday afternoon. They did not disclose the terms of the deal. San Francisco-based Skupos, which provides a two-sided marketplace to a network of about 15,000 independent retailers, received about $22.5 million in venture dept financing in March, the company said.

Convenience-store chains in Pennsylvania are expected to benefit from a $33.8 million round of federal funds for new electric-vehicle charging stations near interstate highways, according to Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation. PennDOT selected 54 electric-vehicle charging projects involving 216 charging ports in its first conditional round of funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, the agency said Aug. 14.

At Garrison’s Convenience Stores in the Texas Panhandle, tobacco product sales represent about one-third of the chain’s in-store revenues, and they’re growing faster than other categories. Vice President Greg Hendricks attributes the growth largely to a loyalty-rewards program focused on tobacco. “Since we got in loyalty, it’s been trending in that percent. The industry is declining, but we’re still seeing increases,” Hendricks said.
