    A bipartisan alliance of congressional representatives and senators has introduced the Hot Foods Act, which would permit the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to cover hot food purchases. U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-New York) and U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado), along with Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania), Jahana Hayes (D-CT), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) and Zach Nunn (R-IA), announced the legislation on Monday.

    Walmart is investing in and revamping its convenience stores and fuel stations, the mass retailer said, announcing on Wednesday that it will open or remodel more than 45 locations across the United States this year.  The company opened its 400th fuel station in Palm Springs, California, in December. It now operates more than 400 fuel stations and convenience stores nationwide. With the openings this year, the retailer will operate more than 450 locations in 34 states, it said.

    Outfox Hospitality, parent company of urban convenience-store chain Foxtrot and small-format grocer Dom’s Kitchen & Market, has filed a petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware for relief under Chapter 7 of the federal bankruptcy code. Chicago-based Foxtrot had 33 locations in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Dallas and Austin, Texas. Dom’s had two stores in Chicago. The bankruptcy petition included several corporate entities operating in those geographies.

    The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Thursday that it is extending the compliance deadline for its far-reaching FSMA 204 Food Traceability Rule by 30 months. The rule was originally set to take effect in January—that deadline has now been delayed until July 20, 2028. The rule covers industries across the food supply chain, requiring companies that manufacture, process, pack, or hold food to maintain records that enable them to track foods back to the source.
