    The 119-metre Breakthrough, built by Dutch shipyard Feadship — most likely for Bill Gates — has become the first superyacht to be supplied with liquid hydrogen in the Netherlands. Breakthrough is the first vessel of its kind to integrate a 3.2 MW hydrogen fuel cell system, generating electricity through a non-combustion process with water as the only by-product. Rumours have been swirling for several years that Bill Gates could have commissioned the yacht.

    President Donald Trump has signed an executive order doubling Section 232 tariffs on imported steel and aluminium from 25 per cent to 50 per cent, effective from today (4 June 2025). The announcement of steel and aluminium tariff increases was made in Trump’s speech at US Steel’s Mon Valley Works–Irvin Plant near Pittsburgh, PA, on Friday (30 May 2025), and later confirmed in a post on Truth Social.

    The Association of Sail Training Organisations (ASTO) has appointed Nusrat Ghani MP as its new vice president. ASTO is the UK member body for sail training charities. Ghani is currently the deputy speaker of the House of Commons, chair of ways and means, and MP for Sussex and Weald. Elected in 2015, she was the first woman to represent the seat. As shipping and maritime minister, she introduced the UK’s Maritime2050 strategy, setting out long-term policy for the maritime sector.

    Cox Marine, a British diesel outboard engine manufacturer, has made changes to its board and leadership team ahead of the planned transition to series production, and the upcoming launch of its 350 V8 diesel outboard. Cox Marine says the leadership changes will take effect from 1 July 2025. Skandinavisk Katamaran Center, which is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, will be the exclusive Aquila distributor in Denmark, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden and Finland. The new partnership is part of Aquila’s ongoing expansion in the European market, with the aim of improving access to its power catamaran range across the Nordic region.
