    RS Sailing has taken on the build license, distribution, marketing and sales of the Aira 22 from Aira Boats. Developed by Jos Snijders Blok in 2018 (Aira’s founder), the boat was designed for recreational sailors and gained popularity with sailing schools and rental centres in the Netherlands as a daysailer. RS Sailing’s commercial director, Michiel Geerling, says RS Sailing’s strategy over the past decade has been to grow its offering for leisure sailors and rental companies.

    Sailors are being asked to fit AI cameras and use GPS trackers if they’re heading to the Pacific — specifically anywhere between California and Hawaii — this summer. The idea is to help map plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP). Currently Ocean Cleanup (the Dutch non-profit in charge of the vision) has eight boats signed-up for the project which runs from July-September. Ideally it’d like 20 to 30 sailing vessels (it’s free to take part).

    Rayglass Boats has showcased its new Protector R Edition range of high-performance RIBs. The lineup features the 330 Targa R Edition, which is the first vessel in New Zealand to be powered by Mercury Racing’s new 400R V10 outboard engines. With a claimed top speed exceeding 60 knots, the 10-metre boat is one of the fastest production cabin RIBs in the country, according to the manufacturer.

    A yacht sales agent has been convicted of customs fraud by the Paris criminal court in a case  involving the import of a high-speed boat from the United States (US). The French national, who is a director of a Miami-based yacht brokerage company, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a two-month suspended prison term and a €20,000 fine for aiding in the fraudulent import of a high-speed Cigarette boat from the US into France.
