    For inmates, the gift reminds them that people care about them. “Not only is it nice to receive soap and toothpaste that you don’t have to buy yourself, but also to know that people are thinking about you,” one inmate shared. “You’re still thought about and prayed about and cared about.”This year, volunteers packed 17,175 Prisoner Packets at NewSpring Church in Columbia on Dec. 11. Prisoner Packets include hygiene items like soap and toothpaste, writing utensils, candy, and a devotional booklet.

    The Executive Board of the SCBaptist Convention met on Oct. 29 via Zoom to conduct business, prepare for the annual meeting, and share ministry updates. The meeting, originally scheduled to occur earlier in October, took place over Zoom due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene. Lee Clamp, associate executive director-treasurer, shared with the board some upward trends in evangelistic efforts across the state.

    South Carolina Baptists celebrated 30 years at their Stoneridge Drive location by opening a time capsule placed by the staff at the building’s groundbreaking ceremony in 1994. This move marked a new era for South Carolina Baptists as they transitioned from their original headquarters on Richland Street in Columbia to a larger, more modern facility at Stoneridge Drive, better equipped to support their growing ministry. SCBaptists gathered at the SCBaptist building to celebrate the milestone.

    The first highlight of the morning was a focus on Kingdom Church, a church plant in the Nexton community of Summerville, S.C. Launched in January of 2024, Kingdom Church was sent out by Restoration Church, pastored by Adam Spurlock. After serving on Restoration’s staff for six years, Joe Douglas was sent out to plant the church. Daniel Norman, worship pastor at Kingdom Church, led attendees in song.
