Creative Australia's shock decision to drop its own selection to one of the world's most prestigious cultural events, the Venice Biennale, has been met with severe backlash including a spate of resignations. Artists and cultural leaders have strongly criticised Creative Australia, the federal government's arts funding and advisory body, for rescinding its 2026 Biennale invitation to Lebanese Australian artist Khaled Sabsabi and curator Michael Dagostino.

When I took myself off social media a year ago, it was with one aim in mind: to spend less time on my phone. Moving the apps off my phone's home screen and logging out of them as a barrier to logging back in again had proved fruitless. I just got great at working around these hacks. Photos I didn't need to see and narky comments I didn't need to hear were sucking up too many precious hours in my day. So I quit. I made sure I told everyone around me what I'd done and that I was now better than them.

Architect Jeremy McLeod's latest work is a house designed to make you squirm. "Were you aware that we built the biggest houses in the world in the middle of a housing crisis?" he asks as he guides me through Home Truth, his mammoth installation at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Home Truth, winner of the NGV's 2024 Architecture Commission Design Competition, takes the form of a house mid-build and it stands at a whopping 236 square metres.
