Omnipod 5 (OP5) is a tubeless automated insulin delivery (AID) system that was, until recently, only compatible with Dexcom G6 sensors (G6). Currently, all published evidence attesting to the efficacy of OP5 relates specifically to use with G6 sensors.1, 2 In mid-2024, OP5 compatibility with Freestyle Libre 2 Plus CGM (L2+) was launched in the United Kingdom. This study aimed to compare early glycaemic outcomes, and time spent in AID mode, between those using G6 and L2+ sensors.

Despite substantial advances in diabetes care over the previous decade, only a minority of people with type 1 diabetes achieve an HbA1c <53 mmol/mol.1 Automated insulin delivery (AID) systems have consistently demonstrated efficacy in reducing HbA1c.2 Omnipod 5 (Insulet Corp) is a tubeless AID system which was launched in the United Kingdom in 2023. Here, we report the first 1-year CGM, HbA1c and weight outcomes in people using Omnipod 5, under routine clinical care, in the United Kingdom.

What is already known? Conversion from flash monitoring to real-time continuous glucose monitoring results in improvements in CGM metrics and HbA1c in people with type 1 diabetes. What has this study found? Conversion, at scale, from Freestyle Libre to Freestyle Libre 2 resulted in significant improvements in low-glucose CGM metrics.
