Growing up between London and Ibiza, Lulah Francs dabbled in two very different but vibrant music scenes. Naturally drawn to the beats of the White Isle, it was early excursions to Space, DC-10 and Pacha — sometimes with her mum — that shaped her taste. For Francs it was an instant love affair, and at the age of 17 she took DJ lessons in her living room in Ibiza with longtime friend Corbi. “After that I was just obsessed,” she says.

Earlier this year, the award-winning BBC radio presenter Annie Nightingale passed away in London at the age of 83, and heartfelt tributes poured in from far and wide. A true pioneer for women in radio, she made history as the first female broadcaster on BBC Radio 1, having joined the station in 1970 just three years after it launched. During that time, all her fellow DJs on the station were male — as were the producers, and the decision-makers behind the scenes.
