I settled on an asking price of $225,000, which seemed fair for a cute but aging structure with few modern conveniences, nor space for them. But I knew that would be considered a bargain.

click to enlarge Border crossings from Canada into the U.S. dropped 17 percent in February 2025 when compared with the same month in 2024, data show. Trips declined as Canadians expressed anger over President Donald Trump’s tariffs and his statements about annexing their country. Canadians face unfavorable exchange rates, as well. The decrease in Vermont appears to be lower, said state Treasurer Mike Pieciak.

About 975 businesses have signed up for a new state-run program intended to make it easier for Vermont companies to offer retirement plans for their employees. Those companies collectively employ about 10,000 workers, according to state Treasurer Mike Pieciak. He was the driving force behind the 2023 bill that created the program, called Vermont Saves. It’s based on similar programs in other states.

click to enlarge Marlene Tromp was confirmed as University of Vermont’s 28th president on Thursday. She will start in the position this summer, university officials said. Tromp, a humanities scholar who has led Boise State University since 2019, will move to Burlington with her 23-year-old son, her sister and a family friend.
