The ceremony is normally held at Callaway stadium, however was changed to the LaGrange High School gymnasium due to weather conditions. It was a packed house for the ceremony. Local students, whether originally from LaGrange or those who have found themselves here during school, got their diplomas.

Published 12:10 pm Monday, May 12, 2025 Berry Global Inc., a plastics manufacturer, has announced that it will be closing its Lanett plant. Berry (now called Amcor) makes plastic buckets at its facility on South Phillips Road in the Huguely Industrial Park. The WARN letter, which requires companies to announce closures and/or mass layoffs, was filed by Berry on May 2. The Lanett closure will mean the layoff of 112 workers. The scheduled date for closing is July 1.

Published 10:00 am Saturday, May 10, 2025 On April 24, First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange and local nonprofit DASH (Dependable Affordable Sustainable Housing) announced that they have started the Groundspring Initiative. “Groundspring addresses some of the greatest challenges childcare centers and families are navigating today,” reads the press release from FPC. The initiative aims to provide free housing to teachers at the church’s child care center.

Published 9:45 am Friday, May 9, 2025 Los Angeles has the Oscars; West Point has the Davids. New Horizon Theater in West Point celebrated its end-of-season award ceremony on Tuesday night. The black tie event celebrated the shows and programs put on by the community theater. Since 2000, the theater has given over $66,000 in scholarship funds to 83 graduating seniors involved in the theater.

The GVACC Junior Ambassadors gathered at BRIX in West Point to look back on the year. The night included the awarding of a college scholarship and the title of Junior Ambassador of the Year. “We started Junior ambassadors 10 years ago,” said Carrie Wood, Executive Director of the GVACC. She said when it began there were only 10 kids in the program.

Story made a name for himself as a Lanett Panther. He played on both of the state championship teams in 2017 and 2019, leading the team as quarterback in 2019.

Matthews has been a Wildcat her whole life. Her mother, Allyson Matthews went to Springwood as well, and will be taking over as head of school next year. Coincidentally, she will be the successor to Kim Plank, the step-mother of Brennan Plank, this year’s Valedictorian.
