One of the challenges they can face is accessing dialysis - a treatment that does the job of the kidneys in removing fluids and waste from the body. There's further evidence today that one of the most common diagnostic tools used in medicine could increase cancer risk. In the largest study of its kind, US-based research published in the journal, JAMA has found CT scans may account for 5% of new cancer diagnoses annually. But experts say precautions are already being taken.
