The Raley’s Companies agreed to pay $420,000 to settle allegations that its stores sold expired over-the-counter medications and baby formula. The agreement marks the second time in recent years that authorities have targeted the West Sacramento-based grocer for selling expired inventory. In 2019 the company agreed to pay $350,000 to settle a similar lawsuit.

This fall, beer in hand, patrons at some of Sacramento’s finest public houses might legally wander out the front door and onto the city’s streets and plazas, moving freely between outdoor festivals and indoor hospitality. The city council is weighing a policy piloted in San Francisco that would allow bars and restaurants to sell open containers of alcohol for patrons, who may enjoy their beverages outdoors during designated events in designated locations.
