CW: Student deathA Harvey Mudd College student died off campus this week, according to an email from HMC President Harriet B. Nembhard. The student identified in the email, Arjun Vattipali HM ’27, was described as an “outstanding member of the community [who will be] missed tremendously.”At the time of the email, the cause of death is unknown.

In the past few days, Pomona College has suspended and banned 5C students who were allegedly involved in the Oct. 7 demonstration at Pomona College’s Carnegie Building, according to emails obtained by TSL. On Sunday, May 12, Pomona Divest from Apartheid (PDfA) and the Los Angeles, Orange County and Inland Empire chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM LA-OC-IE) organized a protest to disrupt Pomona College’s commencement ceremony which was relocated due to PDfA’s Gaza solidarity encampment at Pomona.

On Thursday, May 2, the Pomona College faculty voted in favor of a resolution to “divest from corporations complicit with war crimes and other human rights violations committed by the Israeli government in Israel/Palestine.” The resolution received a 64% vote in support, achieving the majority needed to pass. The faculty meeting, the final one scheduled for this academic year, commenced at 12 p.m. in Pomona’s Edmunds Ballroom.

This Friday, April 5, local police arrested 20 students demonstrating at Pomona College’s Alexander Hall, following Pomona administration’s attempted removal of a mock apartheid wall. 19 of the students were arrested inside Alexander Hall at Pomona on charges of trespassing in response to a call authorized by Pomona President G. Gabrielle Starr. The other student was held on a charge of obstructing/delaying an officer.
