Atlas-V rocket launch could be visible here in Connecticut

By Anthony Carpino The United Launch Alliance, or ULA, will launch an Atlas-V rocket Wednesday night for Amazon's Project Kuiper. The project goal will be to deliver high speed reliable internet around the world, competing with SpaceX's Starlink program. Launch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and could be visible about five minutes after launch here in Connecticut. Click here for more information.
Northern Lights seen across Connecticut

The Northern Lights were once again visible in Connecticut, thanks to a solar storm that erupted from the sun's surface earlier in the week. The aurora will be visible through the early morning of Saturday with the best viewing time through 4 a.m. Unlike the aurora event of October 2024, you won't be able to see this with the naked eye, instead a long exposure camera will be needed. Cold start to workweek but another warmup is on the way

By Anthony Carpino We're starting the first workweek of March with temperatures below average. Highs Monday will be in the 30s. Temperatures will warm back into the 40s on Tuesday as clouds increase. Wednesday is back in the 50s as rain chances return.
Windy today, passing shower possible

We have a windy day on tap and a passing shower is possible in parts of the state on Wednesday. It will be turning breezy this afternoon with winds gusting between 45-55 mph. A Wind Advisory is in effect starting at 10 a.m. We can't rule out a few passing showers or isolated flurry in the higher elevations this afternoon. Temps will be warmer in the low to mid 40s. We'll cool back to the teens and 20s by Thursday morning. Our next system moves in by Friday with mostly rain expected.
Snow showers possible today, another snow chance Wednesday

A few snow showers will be possible on Tuesday morning as a cold front moves through the state. We're not expecting much in the way of accumulation, but visibility could briefly be reduced. By the afternoon the sun will return, but the wind will pick up with gusts between 25 to 30 mph. We'll have another snow chance early tomorrow morning and into the afternoon.
You have one last chance to see the Northern Lights in Connecticut this year

We have one last chance to see the Northern Lights in Connecticut before 2024 ends. Over the weekend, a Corona Mass Ejection sent plasma and other charged particles out from the Sun. SWPC Those particles are expected to reach Earth late Monday and early Tuesday morning. The peak of the event looks to occur after 3 a.m. It's possible the timeframe could change as satellites take in new data on the speed and location of those charged particles. A strong Geomagnetic storm looks possible.

Our StormTracker meteorologists are tracking a wintry mix that could make for a slippery morning commute on Monday. For the rest of the weekend, we'll start with temps in the single digits to teens and 20s across the state. We'll see increased cloud cover for the afternoon with temperatures in the mid 30s. As we look to the new workweek, a wintry mix could make a slippery Monday morning commute. A light glaze of ice is possible with some locations also seeing a coating to an inch of snow.

After a rainy Thanksgiving holiday, the weekend looks much clearer with sunny skies. The high temperatures won't be quite as comfortable, with many towns only getting into the upper 30s - maybe hitting 40 degrees. For early risers, you can expect the morning temperatures to be chilly, staying in the 20s. With the holiday weekend wrapping up, family members that are hitting the highway can expect clear travel conditions along I-95 and other main roads - at least here in Connecticut.

We're waking up with patchy frost in portions of the state. A frost advisory is in effect for northwestern Connecticut until 9 a.m. Temps today will remain cool in the mid to upper 50s. We're expecting another chilly start tomorrow with temps in the upper 20s and low to mid 30s. A freeze warning and frost advisory are in place for tomorrow morning for portions of the state.
