No matter where I turned in Montrose in RTÉ yesterday, I was surrounded by Rebels. Jacqui Hurley was behind me, Donal Óg Cusack alongside me. When the match was tied at 0-8 each after 20 minutes, I piped up and said to them that the storyline wasn’t exactly following the script that they, and everyone else in Cork, expected. And then, in what felt like an instant, the narrative was suddenly shifting back in its anticipated direction.

OVER 20 years ago Fr Peter O’Loughlin and I went to the west Clare board about trying to form a west Clare hurling club. We didn’t just go on a whim. We had a firm plan in place, which we outlined in full detail to all the delegates. We offered to try and source a piece of land for a pitch, whereby we would look for grants to fund whatever we needed to try and firstly have a home. We wanted to call the club West Clare Gaels, where every lad, young and old, who wanted to hurl could come.
Anthony Daly: You'd have to be ultra-impressed with Cork. They'll struggle to keep a lid on the hype

After my column here on Saturday, I got more than a small bit of stick from the Cork crowd, who, in effect were accusing me of trying to set them up ahead of their trip to Ennis on Easter Sunday. It wasn’t just online because I got it from a couple of mates from Cork too via text messages. ‘Hi Dalo boy, are you trying to give us big heads ahead of running into yere boys?’ In their eyes, my words were a form of loading the guns for the impending ambush.

The night before Dublin played Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the final round of the 2011 league, I sent Davy Fitzgerald, who was then managing Waterford, a text message. “Don’t let me down tomorrow.” I, and all of us in the Dublin camp, needed a favour. The maths were simple. Dublin needed to win or draw to reach the league final, but we were only guaranteed to make it if Waterford beat Galway. “Ye do yere bit and we’ll do our best for ye,” Fitzy texted back.

On the day the All-Stars were announced last November, I wrote in these pages that the one person in Kilkenny who wouldn’t be too disappointed the county didn’t get a single award – within reason – was Derek Lyng. Why? Because it would give Derek another reason to rile up his players for 2025 - and give Kilkenny another chance to prove they are better than a lot of people seem to think. It's only mid-March but how good are Kilkenny anymore? What they have been showing isn’t great.
