HONOLULU (KHNL/Gray News) - A Maui man who admitted to killing a beloved pet pig and then lying about it to win a hunting contest will be spending a night in jail. About three dozen people came to a Wailuku courthouse on Wednesday for Jayden Jarnesky-Magana’s animal cruelty case. They shouted, “No excuse for animal abuse” and “Protect our pets” at a rally before the sentencing hearing.

HONOLULU (KHNL/Gray News) - A Hawaii visitor has died and two others were injured after a large surf swept them into the ocean. According to Honolulu Ocean Safety, the tragedy happened on Oahu’s North Shore at Ke Iki Beach Monday morning when the waves were 6 to 8 feet high. A 63-year-old man visiting the area from California, along with two women, were all swept into the water. Authorities said the 63-year-old could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

AbstractReports on neoplastic processes in snakes are sparse regardless of their location, origin or behavior. Here, we describe the occurrence of multifocal cutaneous neoplastic processes consistent with hemangioma and hemangioendothelioma, with a differential diagnosis of angiomatosis, in a colony of native Brazilian rainbow boas (Epicrates cenchria) which also included animals affected by boid inclusion body disease (BIBD).

New Results doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2023.07.10.548442 AbstractTaxonomic uncertainty at the species level compromises our knowledge of biodiversity, conservation and systematics. The impact of such uncertainty is heightened in megadiverse regions such as Amazonia due to high levels of cryptic diversity. We used integrative taxonomy based on newly collected topotypical specimens to redescribe the Amazonian nurse frog Allobates gasconi and infer its phylogenetic relationships.
