LAMESA, Texas (KCBD/Gray News) - Texas authorities are investigating a crash that killed one of their deputies. According to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Jessie Perez died Thursday after debris from a passing vehicle hit him during a traffic stop. The crash happened near W. US 180 and N Ave. V in Lamesa. Texas troopers say the debris came from a passing commercial vehicle.

(Gray News) - Sophie Nyweide, a young actress who starred in the title role of her first major film at just 6 years old, has died. According to an online obituary shared by her family, Nyweide died on April 14 at the age of 24. No cause of death was immediately shared. “Sophie was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend and new aunt,” the family wrote.

About three dozen people came to a Wailuku courthouse on Wednesday for Jayden Jarnesky-Magana’s animal cruelty case. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray News) - Florida authorities say a 20-year-old opened fire Thursday at Florida State University, killing two people and wounding at least six others. The university shared an alert at 12:01 p.m. reporting an “active shooter” in the area of the Student Union. The Associated Press reported just before 2 p.m. that the suspected gunman, later identified as FSU student Phoenix Ikner, was wounded after not following commands and taken into police custody.
