BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) - Belvidere North Blue Thunder recorded its seventh shutout in the last ten games with a win over conference rival Harlem Monday. The Huskies came into the game on a four-game win streak. They held North scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. The Blue Thunder found a spark on offense and scored 11 runs. Hononegah defensive end Trenton Harshbarger to play football at North Park

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) - Trenton Harshbarger officially committed to play football at North Park Monday. The senior defensive end plans to major in education or athletic training at the Division III school in Chicago. He helped the Indians make the playoffs in each of his seasons on varsity and be one of the dominant teams in the NIC-10. He said his favorite high school football memory is summer camp. “Summer camp was always a blast just here with the boys, going at it all summer,” said Harshbarger.

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) - Hononegah beat Freeport 11-3 Monday to make it a two-way tie for first in the NIC-10 between the Indians and Pretzels. Freeport set the tone for the game as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Hononegah responded in the bottom of the third with four runs. Angelo Cassata recorded a three-RBI double to tie the game at three. Hononegah took a 4-3 lead into the fourth. The Indians scored five times in the fourth and twice in the fifth. Beloit Sky Carp comeback falls short in series finale against Cedar Rapids Kernels

BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) - The three-game win streak for the Beloit Sky Carp was snapped on Mother’s Day, losing 6-5 in the series finale to Cedar Rapids. The Kernels scored four runs in the top of the 1st inning. The first came on a sacrifice fly, the others came via a three-run home run from Khadim Diaw. Beloit trailed 4-0. In the bottom of the inning, Gage Miller hit a sacrifice fly which turned into a double play to make it 4-1.
Dodgers broadcaster, Beloit College alum Joe Davis gives commencement speech at alma mater

BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) - Dream big and you can achieve what you want. This was one message 2010 Beloit College graduate Joe Davis shared during his commencement speech to the 2025 class at his alma mater Sunday. Davis aspired to be a sports broadcaster when he arrived on campus almost 20 years ago. Despite one faculty member who told him it’s unrealistic coming from Beloit College, Davis’ dream came true.

Event founder Lizette Vega said she wants to celebrate the local music scene and raise awareness on mental health. Vega said the ‘sad’ in S.A.D Fest stands for ‘Soldiers Against Depression’. New this year was a presentation of the Dream Artist Award to one musician who excels in their artistry.
IceHogs drop game 4 to Admirals, forcing winner-take-all game 5 Sunday

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford IceHogs will have to wait until Sunday if they want to advance to the Central Division Semifinals. They dropped game three to the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 Friday night at the BMO Center. The Admirals scored the icebreaker less than eight minutes into the game. But eight seconds later, Jackson Cates found the back of the net to tie things at one. With 1:15 left in the first period, Aidan Thompson’s second goal of the series put the Hogs on top 2-1 after one.

BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) - Lance and Kelly Leipold’s venture into baseball as the newest minority owners of the Beloit Sky Carp. Lance’s college football coaching career is remarkable. This includes leading UW-Whitewater to six Division III national titles and leading Kansas to back-to-back bowl games. The team’s current owners, Quint and Rishy Studer, have a long-standing relationship with the Leipolds. Both owners are passionate about their community, including the Sky Carp Reading Program.

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) - Madison Daubert will further her academic and athletic career cheering at North Central College in Naperville. She said she chose the school for the campus first. Then she was asked to be on the team when she went to one of their cheer clinics. Daubert cheered competitively for three of her four years at Hononegah. In 2025, they went to state for the first time since 2022.

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) - The top four teams in the NIC-10 for girls soccer faced off against each other Thursday as the regular season winds down. Belvidere North vs. HononegahThe Blue Thunder took a 2-0 lead into the second half then scored twice in the first two and a half minutes to increase their lead to four. Roughly seven minutes into the half, Aniah Schaffer scored on a corner kick. Belvidere North now leads 4-1. Now a 5-1 game, Leah Hopper scored with less than 17 minutes left to make it 5-2.
